Case Circumstances
Hegwood was last seen on March 20, 1980, leaving the Townhouse Lounge in downtown Hattiesburg. He left the lough at about 9:30 or 10 p.m. to go home, where he was going to meet his date. His car was involved in a minor hit-and-run accident. It is unclear if Jeffrey was the driver at the time of the accident. His car was found abandoned the next day on Short Katie St,. There were no signs of foul play or anyone being in his car with him. Nothing was wrong with the car and nothing had been taken from it and the keys had been left inside. Additional Information: His roommates came home that evening and reported that the front door of their apartment was open and Hegwood was nowhere to be found inside. He has not been seen or heard from since he left the Townhouse Lounge.

Case Notes

6 months after his disappearance, Hegwood's half-brother whom he had never met was killed in a police shootout in Ontario, Canada. He was carrying Hegwood's license at the time of his death.

Authorities do not believe that he is responsible for Hegwood's disappearance but believe that he somehow stole Hegwood's identification prior to his disappearance
